Membership FAQs

1. How did the OCA start?

OCA started in 2012 when members of Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Northwest Specialty Clinics came together to form an organization to have a more regional impact on cancer care, as well as improve communication and coordination with patient care.

2. Is membership limited to WVCI and NSC?

No. OCA is intended to bring together quality providers focused on disease specific cancer care. Membership is not limited to any organization affiliation.

3. If I am part of WVCI and NSC am I automatically a member of OCA?

No. To become a member a provider is required to be nominated by a disease team leader and be approved by the board. Each member needs to fulfill the membership requirements.

4. How much are dues?

Dues are $200 a quarter.

5. What if I cannot meet all the requirements of membership?

Rare exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis by the Board.

6. What is considered a “navigator”?

Although some facilities have full-time navigators, a navigator can be a nurse, scheduler or physician assistant. They need to be available to coordinate care with other navigators in the system.

7. Am I responsible for the expense of others accessing my EHR?

No. Part of membership requires the ability of others in the disease-specific team to have access to each other’s EHR. Cost of access falls on the person wanting access. Typically these costs are not excessive.

8. My tumor type is not listed. Are you expecting to add other tumor types in the near future?

Yes. We are in the process of adding more.
